Course
description
Three Sisters Farm is a working farm. Our
bioshelter is the heart of our market garden farm. In addition we have a ten acre woodland that will be part of the course work.
The dual goal of the course is to provide training as a permaculture apprentice
and to further design work at Three Sisters Farm. The price is $1000 for course
and food.
Facilities:
Camping:
We have no indoor lodging available. Camping sites are available both at the farm.
We have a private solar showers and a composting outhouse.
No
child care is available.
Meals
will be prepared from fresh farm produce and mostly whole, natural and organic
ingredients. Generally meals will be vegetarian plus eggs, and dairy with a few
exceptions. Our goal is to provide options at most meals, i.e. breakfast buffet , buffet style soup and sandwich bar for lunch and
lots of salads. Evening meals will be main course with side dish options.
Fruit,
coffee, tea and herb teas will be available. While we will have an assistant
preparing most meals, course participants will rotate in assisting in food
preparation and clean-up. Let use know in advance your special diet
preferences.
Instructors:
Darrell
Frey or Daninne Egizio-Hughes and teaching
assistant(s) will lead most sessions. Guest presenters and field trips to local
sites of relevance will be used as needed.
Design sessions are incorporated into
the schedule. Evening sessions will generally involve research, discussion and
activities.
Students
will be surveyed for interests and expertise and will be asked to present to
the class on pertinent subjects they are familiar with.
Report
preparation and computer time will be scheduled as needed.
We
will strive for a balance of lecture, discussion, hands on projects and
activities. The requirements of the permaculture design course curriculum will
be met with the farm and other sites used to demonstrate and explain the
concepts and practices of permaculture design. Students will work in teams or
individually to study, research and prepare design reports to further the goal
of taking the farm closer to the goal of sustainability. Successful completion
of the course is based on participation , design
report and attendance.
