Three Sisters Permaculture Design

Permaculture Design Course at Three Sisters Farm:  August 4-16, 2008

Intensive training in Permaculture Design. Co-Teachers include Darrell Frey,  Daninne Egizio-Hughes

Three Sisters Permaculture is pleased to again offer hands on training in ecological design. Program includes permaculture principles and practices, design and planning, and study of intensive market gardening, natural building, energy systems, resource management, sustainable community development, and great food from the farm and local farmers!

            Participants receive a Certificate of Permaculture Design training on successful completion of the 80 hour course

Costs: $1000 includes food, camping and course materials. Textbook, Permaculture:A Designers Manual required reading. (not included in fee). Please pre register with $200 deposit by July 1.

Course description

 

Three Sisters Farm is a working farm. Our bioshelter is the heart of our market garden farm. In addition we have a ten acre woodland that will be part of the course work. The dual goal of the course is to provide training as a permaculture apprentice and to further design work at Three Sisters Farm. The price is $1000 for course and food.

 

 

Facilities:

Camping: We have no indoor lodging available. Camping sites are available both at the farm. We have a private solar showers and a composting outhouse.

No child care is available.

 

Meals will be prepared from fresh farm produce and mostly whole, natural and organic ingredients. Generally meals will be vegetarian plus eggs, and dairy with a few exceptions. Our goal is to provide options at most meals, i.e. breakfast buffet , buffet style soup and sandwich bar for lunch and lots of salads. Evening meals will be main course with side dish options.

Fruit, coffee, tea and herb teas will be available. While we will have an assistant preparing most meals, course participants will rotate in assisting in food preparation and clean-up. Let use know in advance your special diet preferences.

Instructors:

 

Darrell Frey or Daninne Egizio-Hughes  and teaching assistant(s) will lead most sessions. Guest presenters and field trips to local sites of relevance will be used as needed.

Design sessions are incorporated into the schedule. Evening sessions will generally involve research, discussion and activities.

Students will be surveyed for interests and expertise and will be asked to present to the class on pertinent subjects they are familiar with.

Report preparation and computer time will be scheduled as needed.

 

We will strive for a balance of lecture, discussion, hands on projects and activities. The requirements of the permaculture design course curriculum will be met with the farm and other sites used to demonstrate and explain the concepts and practices of permaculture design. Students will work in teams or individually to study, research and prepare design reports to further the goal of taking the farm closer to the goal of sustainability. Successful completion of the course is based on participation , design report and attendance.
